Agra: Sanjay Singh, 19, was having dinner at home when his girlfriend’s father barged in along with an associate and shot at him, hitting him in the shoulder. The incident took place in Nagla Lachi village of Pilua police jurisdiction of Etah district late on Tuesday night. The accused, also named Sanjay, 50, (who goes only by his first name) fled the spot along with his associate after the incident. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to a hospital and administered first aid.Singh was in a relationship with Sanjay’s daughter, who studied in the same college as him. The latter was against it and had warned the boy against meeting his daughter. When he didn’t comply, Sanjay decided to shoot him.Speaking to TOI, Maharaj Singh Bhatti, station house officer of Pilua, said, “The victim was in a relationship with his classmate in college. The couple had expressed their desire to get married and live together, but the girl’s father was against the relationship. Earlier too, the accused had warned the boy to stay away from his daughter, but the couple continued to meet. This infuriated the man, who, along with his associate, fired a shot at youth while he was at home.”“After the incident, the two accused fled the spot and are currently absconding. We have booked the accused under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 25 of the Arms Act,” added the SHO.Meanwhile in Firozabad, a 24-year-old youth committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed pistol. Identified as Atul Singh, a resident of Nagla Amar Singh of Jasrana police jurisdiction, the victim was suffering from epilepsy and had been depressed because of it. According to station house officer R B Singh, “The youth was in distress due to his medical condition. He shot himself with his licensed weapon. The victim’s body was sent for post-mortem.”
