  • | Monday | 16th January, 2017

The SP said samples of the DNA tests were collected and sent to the forensic scientific laboratory, where they would be matched with the DNA samples of the cult leader. He said it would take 6 to 8 weeks for the report from the lab.Only last Thursday, the Allahabad high court had expressed dissatisfaction over the progress in the Jawahar Bagh case and had ordered day-to-day hearing in the case from January 17 (Tuesday) onwards. Agra: The chief judicial magistrate of Mathura on Monday allowed the police to conduct a DNA test on the son of Ram Vriksha Yadav, the main accused in the Jawahar Bagh violence that claimed 29 lives on June 2, in order confirm the identity of the dead cult leader.Talking to TOI, superintendent of police (city) Ashok Kumar said Ram Vriksha's son, Raj Narain, was produced in the court of CJM Alpana Shukla who granted the permission for his DNA test. However, many of his followers claim that he was still alive.Shukla alleged that DNA samples of Yadav collected from the site of the clash had not yet been matched with his children, which was countered by the state’s additional advocate general Imran Ullah who claimed that forensic experts had visited the cult leader’s house in Ghazipur district but it was found locked. A division bench comprising chief justice D B Bhosale and justice Yashwant Verma passed the orders on PILs filed by Ashwini Upadhyay, Vijay Pal Tomar and others seeking a CBI probe in the case.According to reports, in his PIL Ashwini Upadhyay’s counsel Rajiv Lochan Shukla had said that the commission of inquiry set up by the Uttar Pradesh government has been an “eyewash” as so far it has not been ascertained whether Ram Vriksh Yadav – the cult leader under whose leadership the squatters had been occupying the public park – was dead or alive.Yadav, known to be close to top leaders of the ruling Samajwadi Party in the state, was said to have been killed in the violence that had erupted during the eviction drive last June.
