The team also collected samples of food items from dhabas near Khalsa College. The team also collected samples from three private clubs on the Company Bagh premises. He said the masses could drop information about adulteration and unhygienic food preparation with the Health Department office, so that action could be taken against such shops. “We have received tip-offs that a few shopkeepers are selling unhygienic food to students,” said Kahlon.

Manmeet Singh Gill Amritsar, February 25 The food wing of the Health Department has collected 55 samples of food items from various eateries across the city during the past two days. District Health Officer Shivkaran Singh Kahlon said the drive was to check the sale of unhygienic foods near educational institutes and poor quality milk being transported into the city from outer areas. Kahlon said the team seized three expired items, including two sausages from Cafe Connect in the Ranjit avenue area. The team also collected samples of food items from dhabas near Khalsa College. “We have received tip-offs that a few shopkeepers are selling unhygienic food to students,” said Kahlon. The team also collected samples from three private clubs on the Company Bagh premises. Further, the team inspected various eateries in Ranjit Avenue where the managements were asked to ensure proper hygiene while cooking and serving food. Kahlon said all samples would be dispatched to the food testing laboratory in Chandigarh. “If the samples are found to be substandard or unsafe for the human consumption, stringent action will be taken against the defaulting eateries,” said Kahlon. He said the masses could drop information about adulteration and unhygienic food preparation with the Health Department office, so that action could be taken against such shops.
