Environmentalist Arvind will pedal across country to launch his C-Negative movement Neeraj Bagga Amritsar, February 26 Noted environmentalist and two-time Guinness World Records holder Arvind Mishra on his Trans India Carbon Negative campaign today reached the city. He also visited the Rayat Bahra University campus, here, followed by a city ride with the Amritsar Bicycling Club. Arvind will be cycling 15,000 km across the country to launch his C-Negative movement that will assist individuals and organisations in taking responsibility for their carbon footprint and drastically reducing it. C-Negative is an intensive climate literacy travel and talk programme that will reach 300 universities, 500 corporate and 400 communities in the country. So far, Arvind has also planted 5,000 trees in the state during his recent visits to 12 prominent universities of Punjab and Haryana. This initiative will have Arvind kick-start an important conversation about how and why it is imperative to reduce individual carbon footprint in order to save the planet. He hopes to reach at least a million citizens in the country so he can change their minds and their lifestyle. A man who dons multiple hats, Arvind probably would not tire of talking to people and giving lectures on this subject — after all, he holds a Guinness World Records for giving the longest marathon lecture on Scientific Computations, which lasted 139 hours and 42 minutes. Arvind expressed his views on consumerism. He said: “It’s unfortunate that our exponential growth is actually leading our race to destruction. We have been trying to automate every human process. I might understand elevators for heavy applications, but what’s the use of walking escalators? We need to understand that primitively, the human race is not supposed to have this much of comfort.” “How we make governments put climate change on political agenda, he said, adding that “the more effective balance has to come from people and not through government policies. It is the collective mass that is responsible for over usage of resources.” “There is no need to drink Brazilian coffee in Chandigarh just because it has been marketed best in the world. These usages are linked to human insensitivity. Millions of ships are polluting our air and oceans just because things are marketed and we are made to believe otherwise,” Arvind said.
