Amritsar, March 22 An auto-rickshaw driver was booked and arrested by the police when he tried to flee after hitting a traffic head constable at the SSSS chowk here. The incident occurred on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Jagtar Singh, son of Joginder Singh and a resident of Nangali village on Fatehgarh Churian Road. The Civil Lines police have registered a case under Sections 279, 332, 353 and 186 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. According to the police, the traffic policemen chased and arrested him while he was escaping. Head constable Paramjit Singh stated that he along with ASI Jarnail Singh were present at the SSSS chowk when they signalled Jagtar to stop his auto. He was listening to his mobile phone while driving. However, instead of stopping the auto, he allegedly tried to speed away. During his attempt to flee, he hit the head constable who fell down on the road. The police team then chased and arrested him from Majitha Road. Further investigations were under progress, the police authorities said.
