Bus fare hike unlikely in budget, says Transport Minister

Ramalinga Reddy said on Friday that there was no proposal to hike the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) or BMTC fares in the coming budget in view of losses incurred due to several reasons, including demonetisation. Beside demonetisation, the transport corporations and BMTC suffered losses due to agitations such as Mahadayi stir. “Increment of those DCs against whom complaints were received will be cut as a warning,” the Minister said.

However, he said the department had asked the government to compensate for the loss. Beside demonetisation, the transport corporations and BMTC suffered losses due to agitations such as Mahadayi stir. Three day strike by the employees last year was another reason for the loss, he said. Increment cut Mr. Reddy said the Divisional Controllers (DCs) across the State have been asked to work diligently towards addressing the grievances of the public. “Increment of those DCs against whom complaints were received will be cut as a warning,” the Minister said. There was no staff shortage in the road transport corporations, he added.
