Crime Branch to probe Rama Devi Facebook post row

The cyber cell of Crime Branch registered two separate cases against Aarohi Creations, a private firm, on whose Facebook page the photos were posted. Sujit Sahoo, owner of Aarohi Creations, continues to remain incommunicado. Aarohi Creations allegedly posted the pictures of at least 50 students with derogatory caption "sex contest", sparking protests among students and several social outfits. The second case was registered following a complaint by a group of victims. Notably, Aarohi Creations recently conducted a contest under the title of 'best display picture' among students of RD varsity and doled out prizes to winners.

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Monday ordered the Crime Branch to investigate into Saturday's cyber offence , involving the upload of obscene photos and remarks on some students of Rama Devi women's university here in social media. Earlier, the commissionerate police was probing the case.Chief minister Naveen Patnaik entrusted the Crime Branch after the victims and several students of different colleges met him in his office in the Assembly. The second case was registered following a complaint by a group of victims. We formed an eight-member team and already started the investigation," said special DG (Crime) B K Sharma, who was present in Naveen's chamber when the girls aired their grievance.It will be a testing time for the cyber cell to get clue about the accused as the page was blocked by Facebook on Sunday following requests by the victims. "We may face difficulty to trace the IP address as there is no cyber footprint left now following blockage of the page. We will try to find out whether Aarohi Creations uploaded the objectionable photos or somebody else played mischief and uploaded the posts on Aarohi Creations page," another officer said.The probe agency said it would write to the law enforcement response team of Facebook to get details of the blocked account and IP address. Notably, Aarohi Creations recently conducted a contest under the title of 'best display picture' among students of RD varsity and doled out prizes to winners. Sujit Sahoo, owner of Aarohi Creations, continues to remain incommunicado. "We tried to contact him, but he is on the run," said an officer of Saheed Nagar police station, which earlier probed the case.
