National Book Trust mobile exhibition a big hit in rural Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to popularise books and promote reading in the remote areas of the state National Book Trust has launched a month long mobile book exhibition across Odisha. The mobile book exhibition covered eight districts of the state. The main aim of the exhibition is to reach readers in interior pockets of the state. "There are so many misconceptions about reading habits of people. People in rural areas also like reading and would purchase books irrespective of their earnings if books reach to them," said Bratin Dey , regional manager of NBT.The exhibition has been a part of the National Book Festival by NBT to celebrate its 60 years.Dey said, "The exhibition got an overwhelming response in the rural pockets of Odisha.

People of all age groups, irrespective of their economic and educational status visited the exhibition".The mobile book exhibition started from Keonjhar on March 4 and covered places like Balasore, Baripada, Keonjhar, Angul, Sambalpur, Boudh, Nayagarh and concluded at Bhubaneswar on Sunday.Sources said, 50% discount was given on each of the book and around 4200 titles have been sold worth Rs 1.25 lakh in three weeks.The exhibition included collections of stories of noted Odia writers including Manoj Das, Mohapatra Nilamani Sahoo, Shantanu Acharya, Chandrasekhar Rath, Krushna Prasad Mishra, Rabi Pattanayak, Bhubaneswar Behera, Binapani Mohanty, Pratibha Ray, Jagannath Prasad Das, Jagdish Mohanty and Faturananda.
