3 engineering students killed as mini-truck hits motorbikes

In a tragic accident, three engineering students were killed when a mini-truck hit their motorbikes near Kovalam on Sunday morning. While Sakthivel, Ravikumar and Sasikumar were killed on the spot, Prakash survived the accident. They were returning to their place of stay early on Sunday morning when the mini-truck loaded with coconuts hit their vehicles near Kovalam. They also informed the Kelambakkam police who rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to Chengalpet Government Hospital. According to the Kancheepuram police, four engineering students of Semmancherry — S. Sakthivel (22) of Kovilambakkam, K. Ravikumar (22) of Cheyyar, M. Sasikumar of Palayamkottai and M. Prakash of Thindivanam — had gone for a picnic on motorbikes to Mamallapuram on Sunday.

While Sakthivel, Ravikumar and Sasikumar were killed on the spot, Prakash survived the accident. He is being treated for serious injuries in a private hospital in Kelambakkam, police said. Soon after the accident, the truck driver escaped. Locals who heard a loud crash rescued Prakash and got him admitted to the hospital. They also informed the Kelambakkam police who rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to Chengalpet Government Hospital. The police are searching for the truck driver, Karthik.
