Despite ban, eruthattam (bull chasing) event was held at different villages in Omalur block in Salem district on Monday. | Photo Credit: ;E_Lakshmi Narayanan more-in Defying the Supreme Court’s ban on jallikattu, the traditional sport was conducted at three places in Thammampatti in the district here on Monday. On Sunday, preparations were on for conducting the sport at Gangamasamudram area in Thammampatti. However, police prevented them and asked people to leave the place. On Monday morning, organisers let loose four bulls in the dry-lake in the area and youths attempted to tame it. But, when police personnel arrived, tamers and the crowd dispersed. Likewise, jallikattu was held in Thammampatti and Naduveedhi in which over 30 bulls were let loose. As soon as police arrived, the crowd dispersed. Likewise Eruthattam (bull chase), which is banned in the district, was held in many places in rural areas in which youths hold the rope tied to the nose of the bulls on both sides and the bulls were taken around the temple. Later, they chase the bulls. During the bull chase held in Thedavur, the bull injured the onlookers, Alamelu (75), K. Santhosh Kumar (22) and Maveeran (35). They were admitted to hospital and were undergoing treatment. Likewise, jallikattu was held in Karattupudur Lake, near Palayapalayam, for three hours in the morning in Namakkal district. After police personnel arrived, onlookers and tamers dispersed.
