Rebel AIADMK MLA Semmalai gets rousing reception in his Mettur constituency

Mr. Semmalai, a former Minister and senior leader of the party, was the lone party MLA of the 10 elected from the district to back Mr. Panneerselvam. In Mettur town, Mr. Semmalai was taken in a procession to the MLA office. All the eight constituencies in the district - Erode East, Erode West, Modakurichi, Bhavani, Perundurai, Anthiyur, Bhavani Sagar and Gobichettipalayam - are represented by the ruling party MLAs. Police have been posted in front of the offices and residences of all MLAs in Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts. Meanwhile, a group of supporters belonging to the Edappadi Palaniswami camp gathered on the Bhavani road in Mettur town and raised slogans condemning Mr. Semmalai for voting against the party whip.

Palaniswami government in the trust vote preferred to remain indoors after arriving in the district on Tuesday, S. Semmalai, who is in the O. Panneerselvam camp, was accorded a rousing reception at various centres in his Mettur constituency. Mr. Semmalai, a former Minister and senior leader of the party, was the lone party MLA of the 10 elected from the district to back Mr. Panneerselvam. His supporters took him on a procession, raising slogans hailing him, OPS and late Jayalalithaa at Mecheri, Karumalaikoodal, Kunjandiyur and other areas. In Mettur town, Mr. Semmalai was taken in a procession to the MLA office. Meanwhile, a group of supporters belonging to the Edappadi Palaniswami camp gathered on the Bhavani road in Mettur town and raised slogans condemning Mr. Semmalai for voting against the party whip. A.B. Sakthivel, MLA from Salem South constituency, who was in the news for the past two days because of the agitation by OPS supporters in front of his house, visited the Corporation Boys School at Ammapettai and interacted with students. He told presspersons that the agitation was instigated by the DMK. Police have been posted in front of the offices and residences of all MLAs in Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts. In Namakkal, Pon Saraswathi, MLA from Tiruchengode, visited her office in the morning and held discussion with party functionaries and workers. In Erode, though a few MLAs had refused security, police said two personnel were posted at each of the 16 points. All the eight constituencies in the district - Erode East, Erode West, Modakurichi, Bhavani, Perundurai, Anthiyur, Bhavani Sagar and Gobichettipalayam - are represented by the ruling party MLAs.
