CMCH gets advanced ambulance for VVIP duty

Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) has been allotted an advanced life support (ALS) ambulance which will be used exclusively for VVIP duty. The ALS ambulance designed by GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute was handed over to CMCH on Wednesday. Due to lack of ALS ambulance, those belonging to private hospitals were being used during VVIP visits in Coimbatore. The ALS ambulance will be used for the first time during the scheduled visit of Prime Minister on Friday. The ALS ambulance has emergency life-saving equipment including ventilator, multi-para monitor, and defibrillator in addition to facilities available in 108 ambulances.

The ALS ambulance will be used for the first time during the scheduled visit of Prime Minister on Friday. GVK EMRI's Programme Manager for Coimbatore V. Muthukrishnan said that the ALS vehicle will not be part of 108 ambulance fleet but will be stationed at CMCH. “The vehicle has been handed over to CMCH after installing it with all specifications required by the Health Department. It will not be used in 108 network,” he said. The ALS ambulance has emergency life-saving equipment including ventilator, multi-para monitor, and defibrillator in addition to facilities available in 108 ambulances. It also has a collapsible stretcher that can be converted to a wheel chair. “It is like a mobile emergency medical unit. The vehicle will be used only for VVIP duty in Coimbatore and nearby districts as per direction from the Government. It will be used for the convoy of Prime Minister on Friday,” said R. Soundravel, resident medical officer of CMCH. Due to lack of ALS ambulance, those belonging to private hospitals were being used during VVIP visits in Coimbatore.
