Cancer patients get a musical surprise in Coimbatore hospital

COIMBATORE: Shanmugham, 60, who is fighting cancer at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital , was in for a musical surprise on Wednesday afternoon. All the patients in the cancer ward enjoyed the music for an hour that was arranged to make them relax. "My son wanted to bring music as a therapy for cancer patients because he was benefited by it in San Diego in the US during his treatment. It was organised by Ashwin Maharaj Foundation, a Chennai-based NGO.R Manonmani, the managing trustee of the foundation, said it was her second son's dream to use music as therapy for cancer patients. So this type of music not just relaxes the patients but also the relatives of the patients and the hospital staff," said Chitra.Manonmani said they have conducted these sessions in cancer research institute in Gujarat, Bengaluru and Chennai.
