Fire breaks out in Coimbatore scrap shop

COIMBATORE: A major fire broke out in a scrap shop at Poonga Nagar near Athupalam here on Wednesday morning.The fire broke out at 3.45am. The owners of the scrap shop said they suffered a loss of Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh due to the fire. We provided two water tankers, and the fire and rescue services department brought five water tankers," said a police officer. The scrap shop stored plastic, aluminium vessels, paper, oil and other metal items. The reason for the fire was not known.Locals informed police and fire and rescue services department.

We provided two water tankers, and the fire and rescue services department brought five water tankers," said a police officer."Since there were several thatched huts close by, we were worried that fire would spread to other houses," said an official.The fire was put out around 6am. The owners of the scrap shop said they suffered a loss of Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh due to the fire.
