CUTTACK: In a major breakthrough, Police on Monday arrested two persons who had allegedly stolen Rs 3 crore from ATMs across the state in October last year by cutting the machines through gas cutters.The accused Mohammed Sahid (48) and Mohammed Jahid(25) were arrested from Mewat in Haryana after heavy exchange of fire. .The gang following the same modus operandi had looted Rs 16.76 lakh from an ATM at Gandarpur in Cuttack by cutting the machine with a gas cutter on the intervening night of October 16 -17 last year.While investigating the case, commissionerate police got clue about a Tata safari vehicle which was used in the crime from Manguli toll gate . After tracing the vehicle, police collected information about its owner from transport department and also traced few mobile phone numbers which were used at the crime spot on that night. "On basis of the information, our team went to Haryana to arrest the ATM robbers . In association with Haryana police, raid was conducted on hideouts of the miscreants but they opened fire at our men. After heavy exchange of fire, we managed to nab the two main culprits," said DCP, Sanjeev Arora.During interrogation, the two revealed that they had looted many ATMs in Odisha in the month of October last year. Initially, police have managed to ascertain at least eight robbery cases in Bhadrak, Balasore, Dhenkanal and Bargarh district.A team of commissionerate police is camping at Haryana to arrest the remaining four members of the gang.
