CUTTACK: Following the footsteps of Maharashtra doctors, junior doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital here have resorted to cease work from Monday evening after one of their colleagues was attacked by a patient's attendant.The junior doctors have alleged that a patient Malati Mohanty from Jagatsinghpur was admitted to pulmonary medicine department of SCB in a very critical condition on Monday. The post graduate medico on duty Samir Ranjan Behera administered appropriate treatment to the patient but she succumbed to her condition. Enraged by her death, patient's family members abused and slapped Behera. The doctor has also lodged a FIR in this regard at Manglabag police station.Demanding immediate arrest of the attackers, junior doctors have gone on cease-work. "In such environment, we are not feeling safe to do our duties. Along with post graduate students, senior residents and house surgeons are also on cease-work from 8pm today," said Preetam Kar, president of post graduate doctors association of SCB. The total strength of PG, SR and house surgeons in the hospital is over 600.Meanwhile, SCB authorities have decided to convene a meeting on Tuesday to pacify the junior doctors. "We will talk to the students and take measures to resolve their problems," said an official of SCB.
