Dehradun: Online registration for Char Dham yatra to begin

DEHRADUN: The Tourism department is extending the option of online registration to the pilgrims for Char Dham destinations from this year onwards. Satish Bahuguna , senior tourism official said, "The pilgrims will be able to do registration while sitting at home from any corner of the country. For this, the pilgrims have to be present the specific locations where this facility is made available in order to get registered. Besides, they will also be able to arrange for their accommodation, food and transportation in advance in order to enjoy hassle free travel to the Char Dham destinations." They will get to know the timing for the pilgrimage and other related detail on the website itself.

Officials said that this would not only help tourists in getting the registration done at home but they would also get complete information about the opening time of temple portals and the state government will be able to keep tab of the footfall of pilgrims. Satish Bahuguna , senior tourism official said, "The pilgrims will be able to do registration while sitting at home from any corner of the country. They will no longer need to come to the state to register themselves. They will get to know the timing for the pilgrimage and other related detail on the website itself. Besides, they will also be able to arrange for their accommodation, food and transportation in advance in order to enjoy hassle free travel to the Char Dham destinations." The applicant will be able to do online registration by using their Aadhar Card It is after the 2013 deluge, when the state government failed to assess the actual number of pilgrims who were present at Kedarnath temple which suffered the maximum human causalities, the initiative of biometric and photometric registration was started. For this, the pilgrims have to be present the specific locations where this facility is made available in order to get registered. But now as the online registration will soon be launched before the onset of yatra season at Gangotri and Yamunotri on April 28, the pilgrims would feel a great sigh of relief and, the state government will be able to have some assessment of arrival of pilgrims from various regions.
