2k home guards deployed in DTC buses shifted

Deployment of home guards in DTC buses was one of the prepoll promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Baijal took the decision after receiving several complaints from various quarters regarding mismanagement and malpractices. The government has also planned to induct 7,239 fresh home guards for various works in different departments. In addition, the DTC was unable to release their salaries on time. The Delhi government has also deployed home guards in Mohalla Suraksha Dal of Karawal Nagar and also at residences of ministers, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Sources said many home guards were found to be involved in malpractices. In addition, the DTC was unable to release their salaries on time. Senior IAS officer Swati Garg, who is posted at Raj Niwas, however, said the withdrawal has been made for a particular period of time and that the home guards will be sent back to the buses after the MCD elections. For this, Director General (Home Guards), JK Sharma, has already started the recruitment process. The Delhi government has also deployed home guards in Mohalla Suraksha Dal of Karawal Nagar and also at residences of ministers, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. They have also been deployed at government hospitals and dispensaries. Last year, however, 400 home guards deployed with DTC did not receive their salaries for four months, following which the then LG, Najeeb Jung, pulled up the state government and directed it to release the dues immediately.
