Speeding car hits blockade near IGIA, cop hurt

The injured policemen was immediately transferred to the PCR van and rushed to AIIMS. In critical condition“Since Mr. Chander has medical issues, the doctors have been unable to operate on him. Head constable Rakesh Chander was one of the thousands who were promoted three months ago after years of stagnation, but the happiness was short-lived as he is now battling for his life, said the family. ‘Driver was drunk’ The accident happened when the victim was removing barricades from the road when a Honda Amaze car crashed into the barricade. Mr. Chander along with two others Abbal Singh and Niranjan Patra, were tasked with manning a police picket near Andaz Hotel on the road between Aerocity to Mahipalpur from 7 p.m. on Sunday. When the duty ended around 10 p.m., Mr. Chander began moving the barricades when the vehicle hit it. The barricade hit the head constable’s face, which caused him to fall down and injure the back of his head. Mr. Chander’s colleagues, who were at a distance at the time of the accident, ensured that the driver did not escape. “Since the policeman needed urgent medical attention, the errant driver offered to rush him to a hospital,” said the DCP (IGIA) Sanjay Bhatia. But when they noticed a PCR van stationed at a traffic signal. The injured policemen was immediately transferred to the PCR van and rushed to AIIMS. In critical condition “Since Mr. Chander has medical issues, the doctors have been unable to operate on him. He is in critical condition and there is a clot in his brain,” said a police officer. Mr. Chander had joined the Delhi Police in 1989 and has two children. The accused driver, Sanjay, was taken into custody. He was heavily drunk, said Mr. Bhatia. The driver has been booked for rash driving and causing hurt. He told the police he was returning after dropping passengers.
