Panaji pupils to learn earth sciences

Panaji: Students from schools in Panaji and surrounding areas will undergo a programme on earth sciences including geology, oceaonography and astronomy from July to October every year starting 2018. The association of friends of astronomy, Goa, is carrying out the programme to supplement students from Class V to IX with information being taught in school on the subjects.“The programme will be a detailed module from introduction to earth sciences and will cover topics on universe, discoveries and and technology and will also include film screenings, workshops, hands on sessions and lectures,” schools have been told.The entire programme is being held free-of-cost for interested students and the directorate of education has asked students to enrol for the programme. The course commenced on July 21 to October 27 at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) complex in Panaji, every Saturday from 7pm to 9pm for the convenience of students.The association has kept the programme open to parents and adults as well.By mid-October, as the monsoon season as well as the programme ends, the observations will begin at the astronomical observatory of the association at Junta House, in which the students can then participate in.The association of friends of astronomy, Goa, has been active for the last 36 years.
