INDORE: To maintain eco-friendly atmosphere and promote the policy of green campus, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya DAVV ) will soon take two electric cars on rent. While the varsity has been trying to take several measures to keep the campus green, roping in two electric cars for official use is yet another step to reduce pollution on campus. The varsity will give rent of Rs 20,000 per month for each car.“At present, even the government is promoting use of electric cars, so we also planned to get two cars under the green policy that we follow on campus. The varsity is now waiting for EC minutes to come and it will be only after the minutes, varsity will do the further procedure. However, we will not be buying these cars, we will take them on rent,” said DAVV vice -chancellor N K Dhakad. This will be efficient as there will be no charges of petrol or electricity that the varsity will have to incur, he added. The plan of taking two electric cars got approved by the executive council (EC) in last meeting that was conducted in December. On a daily basis, several vehicles are used for official purposes especially to go to and fro from RNT to Takshashila campus; this not only wastes a lot of fuel but also causes pollution. The two cars will be taken five years and thereafter, it will be given back as the maintenance will be done by the company.“The cars will not be allotted to any individual, however, it will be used for all the official purposes of the varsity,” said Dhakad.
