Smart cards for migrant workers

The Thrikkakara municipal budget has earmarked ?5 lakh for providing smart cards to migrant workers in the area. The smart cards will be prepared with the help of the State police. The budget document said that the number of migrant workers had increased over the years and that there was no database on the workers. The budget has also set aside ?10 lakh for providing smart cards to autorickshaw drivers and to establish a call centre for transport services within the municipal area. A total of ?60 lakh has been set aside for women’s industrial parks at Thengode and Chembumukku.

The municipality would also provide a uniform identification number to the vehicles, the budget document said. The municipal authority has also decided to acquire land for building a short-stay home as the number of establishments employing large number of people has increased over the years. The budget has set aside ?10 lakh for preparatory works on the project. A total of ?60 lakh has been set aside for women’s industrial parks at Thengode and Chembumukku. The Thrikkakara Municipal Community Hall will get a facelift at a cost of ?50 lakh.
