District Collector N. Prasanth, who opened the meet organised as part of the National Youth Week observance, said the State was in need of a committed youth force to achieve many of its development goals for the marginalised sections and to address the rising concerns over antisocial activities. Citing the increasing involvement of youngsters in disruptive activities, Mr. Prasanth said the lack of proper social awareness and participation in community-oriented welfare programmes were the main reasons that dragged majority of them into such behaviours. “However, keeping this young blood engaged in social activities will definitely be a solution and it will contribute a great deal to the process of nation building,” he said. NYK’s district coordinator M. Anil Kumar said youths were responding positively to various community-oriented programmes initiated by the organisation. “This year, we are planning to give them more opportunities to fine-tune their career skills and prepare them to face various selection tests,” he added. T.K. Ummer, former Registrar of Calicut University, delivered the keynote address. NYK’s best youth club award was presented at the function. Office-bearers of Sincere Arts and Sports Club from Koduvally accepted the award from the District Collector. Lead Bank manager P.L. Sunil and National Service Scheme Programme Officer P. Shiji were present.
