LUDHIANA: Continuing the protest on second day, students of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Gill Road, did not attend any classes on Wednesday. The principal of the college, Sehajpal Singh, fixed a meeting with the vice-chancellor of Punjab Technical University, Ajay Sharma, where the principal, controller of examination, Ajay Girdhar and Dean Academics, Kulbir Singh Gill represented the case. The system of relative grading has lowered the overall marks of the students since it was implemented in year 2015, when Panjab Technical University (PTU) implemented the grading system, CGPA. Today, after meeting with the VC, PTU agreed to shift to absolute grading system.A four member-committee was formed on Wednesday and rigorous discussion took place regarding the issue, said principal of the college. He added, “All the three semesters’ marks will be revised and this process would take almost 15 to 20 days.”Once officials were back from the meeting, they immediately floated this news among students and issued a notice stating –‘ The students of B Tech Batch 2015 ( Semester – I , II and III) and 2016 ( Semester ( I and II ) are advised to submit their original Detailed Mark Certificate (DMC’s) issued by IKG PTU in their respective departments by September 18 positively, so that revised results may be issued by university by using absolute grading system.”Positive remark for grading system but negative response for NBA , students to continue protestStudents were elated to hear the positive response by the university but student council of the college has told TOI that they will not attend the classes on Thursday and continue the protest as authorities have not sorted the matter of National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Once a college is eligible, still there are other terms to fulfil. College is working on that direction and we are making best effort. This issue will be resolved as we have filed an appeal.”
