Says he has enmity with none; vehicle spotted near AC market in CCTV footage Nikhil Bhardwaj Ludhiana, March 21 Already struggling to solve several cases of carjacking reported in the city limits, yet another incident reported last night kept the police on their toes. Three armed men robbed a city-based realtor of his white-coloured luxury car, Volkswagen Passat, from the Ghumar Mandi area. Interestingly, the residence of the DIG, Ludhiana Range, SK Kalia, is situated near the spot where the daring crime took place. Following the incident, ACP West Varinderjit Singh, along with SHO of Division 8 Sukhpal Kaur, reached the spot and started investigation. The police scanned footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area to get clues to the carjacking. The incident reportedly took place at around 10.15 pm on Monday night. The victim, Sanjiv Khanna (55), a resident of the Shere-e-Punjab area located on the Badewal road, was on the way back home when he was cornered by armed men near Ghumar Mandi. “After having dinner at a restaurant, I was on the way back to my place. I stopped my car near Ghumar Mandi to pick a phone call when a grey-coloured Swift car stopped in front of my car. Three men alighted from the car and one of them smashed the driver’s side windowpane of my car with an iron rod. The robbers put a weapon on my temple and asked me to come out of the car. I alighted from the car and one of the robbers drove it off while the other two followed him in their car,” the realtor told Ludhiana Tribune. Khanna said he was fortunate enough that miscreants did not shoot him. “Out of fear, I could not even argue with the armed men and at once alighted from my car. I later raised the alarm and informed the police,” he added. He said he had enmity with none. He suspected the accused were following him and struck when he stopped the car to pick a phone call. The ACP West said the police had recovered CCTV footage of the Mata Rani chowk, railway road, AC market and Ghumar Mandi area. ”The stolen car has been captured in the CCTV cameras and the police are scanning them to get some lead,” the ACP added. Sources said the stolen car was captured in the CCTV camera installed at a wholesale fabric store located opposite the AC market at 10.57 pm. The sources said a mobile phone of the realtor was also left in the car and the police had put it on surveillance. Apart from it, call dump of the area is also being analysed.
