Fire ravaging the bus of an engineering college on Virudhunagar-Sivakasi highway on Wednesday evening. more-in An air-conditioned bus of an engineering college was gutted in a fire accident on Virudhunagar-Sivakasi highway on Wednesday evening. However, no one was injured. Virudhunagar Tahsildar Syed Ibrahhim said that except for the bus driver, no one else was in the vehicle when it went up in flames. Police said that the bus that required some repair had left the college for a workshop. However, the vehicle was recalled by college authorities. When it came closer to the college, the driver, P. Dhanushkodi (64), noticed smoke bellowing from the rear side of the vehicle. By the time he stopped the vehicle on the roadside, the fire had spread fast. He managed to run to a safe distance. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Virudhunagar, led by Station Fire Officer S. Jeyaraman, rushed two fire tenders to the spot. Though the firemen fought for more than 40 minutes, they could not prevent the bus from being destroyed in the fire. Amathur police are investigating.
