more-in Excavation work at the Keezhadi site should continue without any hitch as it would facilitate in carrying out research on the rich traditions of the people from this region, said Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Rajya Sabha MP T.K. Rangarajan here on Thursday. Speaking to reporters after visiting the Keezhadi site in Sivaganga district, he said that excavation efforts had benefited in understanding not only the old traditions, but the language, the style of living et al. It was useful for authors and research fellows, especially information about Vaigai river. Taking a dig at the Union budget, Mr. Rangarajan said it would stress the economy. Farmers and labourers, accounting to 40 crore of the l population, had borne the hardships caused by Centre’s ambitious digital economy. When farm labourers were looking for survival, on account of drought conditions, the last thing on their mind would be digital banking or cashless economy. The Centre, he alleged, was keen to help a select group in the corporate world through demonetisation. The people were happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen to wipe out black money, only to realise that they had been ‘duped’ by him. The Union budget did not have much for the common man. The rollout of Goods and Services Tax (GST) would result in increase in prices of all commodities. Service tax must be paid even while paying insurance premium. A close look at the budgetary allocation also indicated that funds intended for research and development for defence had been downsized and provisioned for defence spending, he said. The SC judgement on Sasikala and others had brought shame to the people of Tamil Nadu. Though Jayalalithaa was no more, she figured on top of the convicts in the DA case. He also came down heavily on the Tamil Nadu Governor for taking his own sweet time which had caused political unrest in the State.
