more-in The family of a 38-year-old man, presently admitted in critical condition to a hospital in Malaysia where he was working, has sought government intervention to bring him back safely. In a petition submitted to Madurai Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao on Tuesday, R. Thamaraiselvi, the wife of the worker K. Sundarasamayan hailing from Mallapuram near Sedapatti here, said that her husband was working in a hotel and was hospitalised last month for reasons still unclear. “He used to call me daily. However, for a couple of days since February 13, I could not contact him. A few days later I got to know through the hotel owner, named Abdul Raheem, that my husband had been hospitalised,” she said, adding that the owner did not give proper reason for the illness. According to her, though the owner initially claimed that Sundarasamayan’s was doing alright, she was later told that his conditioned had turned critical. The family also claimed that they deposited ?30,000 in two Indian bank accounts in the third week of February as demanded by Raheem to send Sundarasamayan back safely. R. Chandramohan, Thamaraiselvi’s brother, said that Vadivel, a Chennai-based agent who sent Sundarasamayan to Malaysia roughly six months ago, also refused to offer any help. He said that though a petition was filed with Collector’s office three weeks ago, the family had not received any response from the government officials. “Now, we are making arrangements to send one of our relatives to Malaysia. However, we are not sure how helpful it will be. We will be really helpful if the government intervenes to bring him back alive and safe,” he added.
