Kudla switches off to create awareness about Earth Hour

The focus of the Earth Hour 2017 was to spread the message of environmental conservation and sensitizing the importance of sustainable living amongst the city dwellers, the organisers said.APD Foundation founder Abdullah Rehman told STOI that Earth Hour is a global movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Day long workshop and street play on waste segregation will be held for customers at the mall on Sunday, he said. After the inaugural of Earth Hour by dignitaries, students assembled themselves in the shape of Earth and India within and outside the Mall.While mobile torch march by students marked the beginning of the event, all retailers at Forum Fiza Mall switched off the signage lights and other lights to mark the Earth Hour. Photo booth for customers with placards about environment pollution/ save environment slogans will be another event that is expected to attract visitors at the mall on the second day. "The event is held worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.

MANGALURU: While students of PA College of Engineering arranged themselves in the shape of Earth and sung praising Mother Nature, 'Mobile Torch March' and series of related events highlighted the significance of environmental conservation as part of Earth Hour in Kudla city on Saturday.The event was held under the aegis of APD Foundation , an NGO, in association with students of PA College of Engineering at Forum Fiza Mall. After the inaugural of Earth Hour by dignitaries, students assembled themselves in the shape of Earth and India within and outside the Mall.While mobile torch march by students marked the beginning of the event, all retailers at Forum Fiza Mall switched off the signage lights and other lights to mark the Earth Hour. The movement has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide."Being committed to protection of natural environment, APD Foundation has decided to observe Earth Hour in association with Forum Fiza Mall and students of PA College of Engineering with a two day event spanning March 25 and 26, he said.A day long workshop was held by the APD Foundation on the importance of waste segregation and environment pollution to the customers in the mall as part of the programme. The event on the first day concluded with candle light dining at Food Court of the mall.Meanwhile, on March 26, a bicycle rally will be held in association with Mangalore Bicycle Club at 7am to herald the message of fuel conservation.
