Meerut gets its first digital SBI branch

In line with its digital transformation story, the country`s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) opened its first digital branch `SBI In Touch` in Meerut on Monday. While most of the functions of the branch are automated, the branch has still engaged staff to help customers. The automated machines at this branch include debit card issuing machine, passbook printing machine, cash deposit machine and ATM," said Thakur.The automated branch enables customers to open bank accounts, deposit and withdraw money, update passbook, deposit cheques and print ATM cards through separate kiosks. The specialty of this branch is that any individual with an adhaar card can open his or her bank account in this branch on his/her own in just five minutes by means of automated machines. At the account opening kiosk, customers should fill in the details and an in-built camera would capture their image.

The digital branch at Begam Bridge was inaugurated by Ajit Singh Thakur, general manager of SBI (Delhi branch).Aimed at offering banking solutions to the growing mobile and internet savvy customer base, the branch will facilitate services such as instant opening of account, printing and issue of personalised debit cards and expert advice on investment through video-conference. While most of the functions of the branch are automated, the branch has still engaged staff to help customers."The branch will remain open from 10am to 4pm. The specialty of this branch is that any individual with an adhaar card can open his or her bank account in this branch on his/her own in just five minutes by means of automated machines. The automated machines at this branch include debit card issuing machine, passbook printing machine, cash deposit machine and ATM," said Thakur.The automated branch enables customers to open bank accounts, deposit and withdraw money, update passbook, deposit cheques and print ATM cards through separate kiosks. At the account opening kiosk, customers should fill in the details and an in-built camera would capture their image. They can also cast a digital signature.
