Bijnor: Firing in the air by revellers claimed another life in UP as a 41-year-old man died on the spot allegedly after being hit by a stray bullet shot during a marriage function in Noorpur area of the district.The incident took place on Thursday night during the marriage function of one Rahul Kumar, in Lindar Pur village of Noorpur.As the function was winding up and the guests were departing, Kumar’s uncle Sanjeev Nanak allegedly opened fire in the air while rejoicing with others. A bullet pierced through the neck of his friend Chandarpal, who had come from Amroha to attend the wedding. He fell on the spot and died instantly.People rushed Chandarpal to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.An FIR was registered on Friday by police and the body was sent for post mortem examination. Nanak was booked on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s uncle Ram Singh Saini.“An FIR has been registered against Nanak and he will be arrested soon,” said Durgesh Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Noorpur police stations.After several deaths over the years, most of the districts of Uttar Pradesh have clamped a ban on celebratory firing during functions. A ban was also imposed in Bijnor.However, the lethal brew of alcohol and guns during marriages is still claiming lives of people across the state.
