Harveer DabasBijnor: The chimney of a sugar mill near Bijnor railway station collapsed on Saturday, putting a halt to the crushing procedure in the mill. No casualties were reported from the scene.According to officials at the mill, it will take a few days top rectify the problem. “Thankfully, nobody was injured. The mill had to be shut down for 18 hours. We will soon fix the problem,” said AK Singh, administrative officer at the sugar mill, identified as Wave Industries Pvt Ltd.Farmers, on the other hand, are a worried lot since the crushing procedure was on in full swing.“The plants in the mill have broken down several times. So far only 60% sugarcane has been crushed. Now that the chimney has collapsed, it will halt the entire procedure. We won;t be able to sell as much as we thought we would,” said Jaipal Singh, a farmer.Speaking to TOI, district cane officer OP Singh said, “The sugar mill was set up in 1932. It is a very old factory. We have instructed the mill authorities to replace all plants in the mill.”
