Massive fire guts cloth-making factory in Sardhana

Meerut: A massive fire gutted a cloth-making factory in Sardhana on Thursday early morning. While one fire tender, stationed at Sardhana, was rushed to the spot immediately, four more engines were later sent from Police Lines. The factory belonged to Mohd Akram Ansari, who claimed that the fire had led to losses worth lakhs of rupees. But the fire fighters controlled the fire from spreading.The locals meanwhile created chaos at the spot as they alleged that the fire tenders reached late.“Sardhana is nearly 22 kms away from the city. Since the cloths were of polyester – which catches fire easily – the fire spread rapidly and it became difficult to control the fire.”The cloth-making factory was situated in an area which had other similar factories in its close proximity.

As many as five fire tenders were rushed to the spot, which extinguished the fire in over four hours as the polyester thread inside the factory caused the fire to spread rapidly.While no casualty was reported, losses worth lakhs occurred due to the fire, owner claimed.Ajay Kumar Sharma, Meerut chief fire officer, said, “The fire erupted at 4:30am on Thursday. While one fire tender, stationed at Sardhana, was rushed to the spot immediately, four more engines were later sent from Police Lines. Since the cloths were of polyester – which catches fire easily – the fire spread rapidly and it became difficult to control the fire.”The cloth-making factory was situated in an area which had other similar factories in its close proximity. But the fire fighters controlled the fire from spreading.The locals meanwhile created chaos at the spot as they alleged that the fire tenders reached late.“Sardhana is nearly 22 kms away from the city. While one of the fire tenders stationed in the region reached timely, the other four fire tenders took around half an hour to reach because of the distance,” said Sanjeev Kumar Singh, fire station officer at Police Lines. The factory belonged to Mohd Akram Ansari, who claimed that the fire had led to losses worth lakhs of rupees.
