Shiv Sena inching towards majority in BMC elections

The political equations in the State are likely to change if the Shiv Sena gets a majority in the BMC. The counting of votes for 10 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the prestigious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) , began at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Early trends put the Shiv Sena in lead in Mumbai, whereas the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party was ahead in almost every other municipal corporation, except the Pimpri Chinchwad and the Thane Municipal Corporation. The BJP is leading in Pune, Nashik, Akola and Amravati, while the Shiv Sena is ahead in Thane and the NCP is leading in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation near Pune. Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said his party would get a clear majority in Mumbai. Senior Congress leader Narayan Rane already blamed Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam for the poor performance of the party in Mumbai. This is seen as a setback to BJP leader Pankaja Munde, a cousin of Dhananjay Munde. Pimpri-Chinchwad In the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, the NCP is leading in 20 wards, followed by the BJP in 15 PCMC, the bastion of Sharad Pawar's NCP in Pune, has 128 seats. Incumbent Pune Mayor and NCP leader Prashant Jagtap bags ward number 25 in the Wanowrie area. The results till noon: NCP 5, BJP 3, IND 1. Leads: NCP 19, BJP 19, Shiv Sena 2. Mumbai Early trends in the BMC indicate a major victory for the Shiv Sena. Despite high octane campaign by Chief Minister Devendra fadnavis, the BJP seem to be failing to grab the top post. Till noon, the Sena was leading in 85 seats, while the BJP was leading in 53. The Congress, however, is turning out to be the major loser as it was leading in only 19 seats. Nagpur In Nagpur, the BJP is ahead in 24 seats, out of a total of 151, while the Congress is leading in only nine seats, according to early trends.
