Logicash Solutions, a cash management solutions firm, whose van was robbed of ?1.50 crore in cash on March 16, seems to have failed to learn from past mistakes. The police then pointed out several lapses in the security measures adopted by the firm. On March 27, 2015, the firm had sent three guards to refill cash in ATMs in a Mahindra Bolero pickup van driven by Amar Singh. Police officials confirmed to The Hindu that in a similar incident, a driver with the firm had stolen a pickup van with ?1.28 crore in cash in March 2015. more-in Logicash Solutions, a cash management solutions firm, whose van was robbed of ?1.50 crore in cash on March 16, seems to have failed to learn from past mistakes. Police officials confirmed to The Hindu that in a similar incident, a driver with the firm had stolen a pickup van with ?1.28 crore in cash in March 2015. Nandkumar Gopale, Police Inspector of Byculla police station, who was heading the Property Cell in 2015, and Suryakant Bangar, Senior Police Inspector of Dharavi police station, said the vehicles in both the cases belonged to Logicash Solutions. The police then pointed out several lapses in the security measures adopted by the firm. On March 27, 2015, the firm had sent three guards to refill cash in ATMs in a Mahindra Bolero pickup van driven by Amar Singh. When the guards got down to refill cash in a State Bank of India ATM in Mankhurd, Singh drove away with the remaining ?1.28 crore in the van. An FIR was registered against Singh by the Trombay police and he was arrested by the Property Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch. The stolen money was recovered and Singh was convicted and sentenced to seven years in jail. An investigation report prepared by the Property Cell, a copy of which is with The Hindu, reveals that the vehicle had been leased by Logicash from a transport company. Neither did the transport company and Logicash conduct a background check on Singh, nor did they ask him to produce a domicile certificate, identity proofs or photographs. The report says, “The contract for refilling ATMs required Logicash to deploy an armed guard with the vehicle. This rule was flouted and no security was provided. The vehicle lacked security features except for a GPRS tracker.” In the March 16 incident, a ‘tak-tak’gang, which that specialises in distracting drivers and stealing valuables, stole cash from a Logicash van while its offcials was filling money un an ATM on Sion Bandra Link Road. Dharavi police have so far arrested three people and have recovered ?15 lakh of the stolen money. Mr. Bangar said the vehicle that was robbed in Dharavi last week did not have an armed guard. He said, “There have been security in this case. But it is the banks’ right to give the contract to agencies they The Hindu had on March 20 reported how the police are mulling taking action against Logicash or the driver and guards deployed. A decision will be taken once the investigation is complete. Repeated phone calls to the Logicash office did not receive any response.
