Most of the fly-by-night developers indulge in illegal constructions. They dispose of these illegal constructions and disappear. The buyers get cheated easily,” states the circular. It adds that it is not always appropriate to evict people who are staying in illegal houses. “We have to see the quality of construction of these buildings. We need to decide the category in which the building falls by undertaking structural audits. If the construction of these buildings is poor, then the residents of the buildings have to be evicted immediately and the buildings also need to be demolished.” A senior government official said the government had directed nodal agencies and local bodies to take strict action against illegal constructions. Requesting anonymity, he added: “We will publish the names of projects that are illegal. It will also be displayed at public places so that residents can easily read the information and protect themselves. Awareness has to be spread among people about illegal constructions. The local authorities concerned need to follow the guidelines strictly.”
