Rural crime scene: 45 murders, 66 rapes, 374 deaths on roads in 2016

The Nagpur Rural recorded 45 murders, 66 rapes, 111 kidnappings, 64 dowry deaths, over 1000 robberies and burglaries, 374 fatalities in road accidents etc. The RTI reply was provided by Nagpur Rural police to a RTI query posed by activist Abhay Kolarkar. Cops seized narcotic stuff in 1943 kg quantity collectively valued at Rs 19.37 crore, the RTI reply said. Nagpur: The sleepy towns and villages of Nagpur district did not lag behind their urban counterparts as far as crime scenario is concerned. The period also witnessed 61 riots over one reason or another, 72 cheating cases, 4 dacoities, 28 chain-snatchings, 175 incidents of molestation and other crimes.

The Nagpur Rural recorded 45 murders, 66 rapes, 111 kidnappings, 64 dowry deaths, over 1000 robberies and burglaries, 374 fatalities in road accidents etc. The figures dominated the year 2016 from January 1 to December 31. The period also witnessed 61 riots over one reason or another, 72 cheating cases, 4 dacoities, 28 chain-snatchings, 175 incidents of molestation and other crimes. The RTI reply was provided by Nagpur Rural police to a RTI query posed by activist Abhay Kolarkar. During the same period, 315 criminals were acquitted due to lack of evidence. In all 4252 cases are pending in courts. Surprisingly, the womenfolk suffered a brunt as 416 crimes of different nature were committed against them. The rural parts also recorded 366 suicides. Cops seized narcotic stuff in 1943 kg quantity collectively valued at Rs 19.37 crore, the RTI reply said.
