Nashik: A joint team of the state anti-terrorism squad (ATS), Railway Protection Force (RPF), state and local intelligence departments has raised security concerns about the unauthorised entry and exit points at the busy Nashik Road railway station The team undertook security audit from Odha station to Lahavit station, including Nashik Rd station, under Bhusawal division of Central Railway in the last 48 hours.The audit comes in the wake of railway mishaps, where the role of anti-national elements is being probed. This exercise would enable the agencies to plug the shortcomings to make the security foolproof.At Nashik Road station, the team conducted a thorough survey of the premises. "The team has taken note of the four unauthorised entry/exit points. Since they are illegal, no security personnel is deployed there and commuters use them to enter or come out of the station," said a senior railway officer.The team has noted that the commuters have direct access to the station using the illegal points from Devi Chowk side to platform number 2 and 3, from Godavari guest house and from Sinnar-side (Nashik East) of the railway station. The team also inspected the railway tracks, bridges etc, in view of possible attacks by terror outfits or anti-social elements.Nashik Road railway station is important since transportation of the printed currency notes from Currency Notes Press (CNP) and India Security Press is sent from the station. Hence, Nashik Road in a way is the last security check point towards Mumbai. Hence, security aspects here are more important," another senior officer said.The officers also spoke to farmers owning along the railway tracks and asked them to be vigilant against any unnatural activities. "The officers asked the farmers to ensure all their goods - that can be lifted and put on tracks are kept in their custody. Officers also asked them to keep a close watch on any group of people roaming about without any particular reason," the officer said.The officer said these findings would be documented and a report of the same will be prepared with suggestions. The divisional office of Railways is expected to decide on the issues raised by the committee and a proper solution would be worked out, the officer said.
