Andrea sets the stage on fire

The cheers became louder as Ms. Jeremiah sang ‘O Crazy Minnal...’, followed by Ilayaraja’s hit song Va Va Pakkam Va and many more. Decorative lights lit up the path leading to the open stage. The sun had already set when they walked towards the open stage within the college campus. After a few minutes of silence, the crowd cheered when singer-actress Andrea Jeremiah got down from the car in her pink tank top and white jeans walked up the stage. While the college staff quietly swayed to the music, students standing behind them jumped and danced to the songs.

more-in After wrapping up the fashion show which was organised as part of the annual day programme ‘Mantra ‘17’ and clicking selfies, the students of Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital slowly strode down to the open stage just a few meters away from the auditorium. The sun had already set when they walked towards the open stage within the college campus. Decorative lights lit up the path leading to the open stage. Students stood behind a railing while professors, administrative staff and their families sat down on the chairs arranged for them in front of the stage. It was already past 7.30 p.m. on March 17 when two cars slowly drove past the crowd and halted close to the stage. After a few minutes of silence, the crowd cheered when singer-actress Andrea Jeremiah got down from the car in her pink tank top and white jeans walked up the stage. Kishore (percussion), Leon James (keyboard), Davis (drums), Vijay Joseph (lead guitarist) and Naveen (bass guitar) were ready on the stage as the actor-singer crooned her first song Idu varai Illada... from the Tamil film Goa. While the college staff quietly swayed to the music, students standing behind them jumped and danced to the songs. The star of the night paused after every song to interact with the students. Amidst screams from an audience that just seemed to not get enough, she danced and rendered her a remix of ‘Hello Mr.Ethirkatchi’ from the film Iruvar. The cheers became louder as Ms. Jeremiah sang ‘O Crazy Minnal...’, followed by Ilayaraja’s hit song Va Va Pakkam Va and many more. She sang 15 songs in an hour and a half. Medical students walked the ramp showcasing the different cultures of India. Based on the theme ‘Traditional Walk’, four teams of medical students clad in colourful lehenga, kurta-dhoti, saree and salwar kameez sashayed on the ramp. Solo fashion show After the group competition, nearly 16 students participated in the solo fashion show. The three-day annual programme, which has been getting bigger and better each year, is already one of the important campus festivals in the regional circuit.
