Pimpri Chinchwad: There has been a six-month delay in the construction of 60,000 affordable houses on public-private partnership basis under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits.The civic body had made a request for proposals last week. Joint city engineer Rajan Patil said, “The builder should prepare a detailed project report in consultation with PCMC. It should be approved by the state-level and central appraisal committee. The ministry of housing and urban affairs has issued public-private partnership models for affordable housing policy.” The builder should complete the project in two years, a civic official said.According to PCMC officials, the builder is responsible for maintaining the project for one year. Families with a maximum annual income of Rs3 lakh are eligible to apply for the tenements. Officials said PCMC has waived building permission charges as well as ready reckoner rates for the project.The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is the state-level nodal agency for implementation of the projects. Currently, PCMC has the capacity to fulfil 10,000 housing units, while the remaining 50,000 tenements would be fulfilled with the help of private land owners, officials said.
