Five Maoists killed in Bastar gun-battle, bodies recovered

RAIPUR: At least five Maoists including a senior woman rebel were killed and two security personnel were injured in a gun-battle in forests of restive Dantewada district in Bastar on Saturday.Dantewada police said that the team of DRG commandos had launched a combing operation in the interiors of the forests of Aranpur based on intelligence inputs. Police said that their condition was stable.

Security personnel have recovered five bodies of Maoists belonging to Malangir Area Committee of Maoists from the spot while the area was still being searched till late evening," Dantewada SP Kamlochan Kashyap said.Among those killed, a woman cadre was identified as Palle active as secretary in Malangir Area Committee and member of Darbha Divisional Committee of Maoists, police said adding that during the search security personnel also recovered few weapons including one AK -47 rifle from the spot.Identity of other Maoists killed was being verified and a search operation was still underway while police suspect there might be many other rebels who are injured grievously. Meanwhile, two sub-inspectors including Domendra Patre and Sangram Singh of the DRG sustained bullet injuries and were shifted to the hospital. Police said that their condition was stable.
