Test match effect: Air fares rise

DHARAMSHALA: This sleepy hill town in the foothills of the Dhauladhars will be making debut as a Test match venue for the fourth and last match between India and Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Interestingly, this has led to shooting up of air fares to Rs 15,000 - 20,000 one way between Delhi-Dharamshala. Usually, air fares fluctuate between Rs 3,500 and Rs 8,000.Teams of both countries will land here on Tuesday and stay here for more than a week. The tickets for the match are priced at Rs 200, 250, 1,000 and 1,500.The highest category, corporate box, is priced at Rs 30,000 a five days package (March 25-29). List for the items banned inside the venue has been published, metal detectors at entry gates and police force was deputed across the stadium.

Usually, air fares fluctuate between Rs 3,500 and Rs 8,000.Teams of both countries will land here on Tuesday and stay here for more than a week. "Players of the Indian team are reaching here on March 21 and will stay at the Pavilion hotel till March 29," said Sanjay Sharma , spokesperson of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association here, adding that the Australian team was scheduled to arrive on March 22.Preparations for the Test match have been completed and the stadium was sealed for routine visitors.Sale of the tickets has been started. Those making online purchases will get tickets from counters near the stadium here. The cricket association has even flagged a publicity vehicle for this match, which will tour Kangra district.Security arrangements have been put in place with police barriers coming up on roads leading to the town. "We will chalk out a special traffic plan for this hill town to avoid congestion on roads," said Sanjeev Gandhi, Kangra SP, adding that the public will be informed about the same before the implementation of the plan.
