Five from city drown in sea near Ubhrat

Surat: Five youngsters from Surat city drowned in the Arabian Sea near Ubhrat town of Navsari district, some 25km from the city, in two separate accidents reported on the Independence Day.One person was saved by Navsari fire brigade team.Navsari district administration said on Wednesday that all five bodies were recovered by different search and rescue teams.Suraj Verma and his brother Neeraj, residents of Devi Krupa Society in Katargam, had gone to Ubhrat with their friend Pinku Verma. The trio went deep in the sea and started drowning. They shouted for help but no one dared to venture into the sea to save them. Before the fire brigade teams of Jalapore and Navsari could arrive, they had drowned.While bodies of Suraj and Pinku were recovered near Danti sea shore, some 10km from the spot, Neeraj's body was found near Ubhrat.In the second accident, Mahesh Rajput, Rajkumar Rajput and Ompal Singh of Somnath Society in Varachha, drowned when they also went deeper into the sea.The fire brigade team present there managed to save Ompal Singh while bodies of Mahesh and Rajkumar were found near Danti on Wednesday.Navsari collector Ravi Arora said, "Looking at the increase in the number of drowning accidents, we have decided to double the number of home guards on the beach. We will start a public announcement system to warn people on the shore. Around 6,000 people visit the beach on the public holidays.
