more-in The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, which is making efforts to improve its ranking in the Swachh Survekshan-2017 survey, has roped in Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee Koneru Humpy. At a press conference here on Monday, Mayor Koneru Sridhar announced that chess Grandmaster Humpy would be the city’s brand ambassador for Swachh Bharat campaign and would promote the cause on behalf of the civic body and educate people towards making Vijayawada the best of Swachh cities. Mr. Sridhar said people should dial IVRS number 1969 to rate the sanitation levels of the city and localities based on the PIN code. He said that last year the city stood 23rd, while Mysore had topped the country and Visakhapatnam came fifth in the Swachh Survekhshan survey. “This year we are aiming to keep the city on the top,” he said, urging the public to take part in the survey. Ms. Humpy thanked the Corporation for choosing her as the ambassador and said she would extend all support towards ensuring that the city topped the list. She said cooperation of the public was the need of the hour. Deputy Mayor G. Venkataramana Rao, Additional Commissioner (General) P. Arun Babu, Chief Medical Officer M. Gopi Naik and others were present.
