CPI(M) mourns Srinivas, stages protest against Trump

Vijayawada Central constituency MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao also staged a protest along with his followers in the evening. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said, “The world has turned into a global village. “Today crores of Indians and Telugus who are settled in America should be very careful and see Srinivas’ death as a warning. The death of Telugu engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla in an alleged racial attack in the U.S. triggered protests in the city. Targeting U.S. President Donald Trump, leaders and activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest and burnt his effigy.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said, “The world has turned into a global village. Trump has become a drop of poison in the bowl of milk. Even his parents were migrants once. The same racism which he is promoting now for political gains will land him in trouble in the future,” he said. “Today crores of Indians and Telugus who are settled in America should be very careful and see Srinivas’ death as a warning. Telugu people in the U.S. should come out only in groups and avoid being alone. See that you do not trouble your parents and family here and it is important to stay alive than living in America,” he added, asking the current U.S. aspirants to wait until the situation got normal before flying to that country. Earlier in the day, the CPI(M) leaders demanded that the Union and the State governments mount pressure on the U.S. government. CPI(M) State secretary P. Madhu came down on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for failing to address the issues of the Indians and the Telugus in the United States. “Why shouldn’t we work there when the U.S. companies are exploiting our markets?” he questioned. “Trump has been instigating communal and racial violence and it is time for our governments to react and protect our people,” CPI (M) State committee member Ch. Babu Rao said.
