IIT Kharagpur to remain closed till Sept 13

The official notification came out on Saturday when staff at another institute was tested positive for COVID-19.


The COVID-19 pandemic has not even spared the educational institutions this year. The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, (IIT-KGP) has been closed for a week i.e., from September 6 to September 13. The national institute has said that this step has been taken to contain the rapid spread of coronavirus in the whole campus. The situation is so serious that the college administration has instructed its employees who live on the premises not to come out of their space, except for emergencies.

In an official notification, the institute said, “The institute shall remain closed for one week. All offices of the institute will also remain closed, including Saturday and Sunday. The outpatient department (OPD) of BC Roy Technology Hospital will remain closed, except the emergency unit, until further orders,”

This decision was taken on Saturday after the staff at BC Roy Technology Hospital was tested positive for the virus.

However, the classes shall continue (except for first-year undergraduate courses) as work from home. The in-campus shops that will remain open till 2 pm., on the other hand, in-campus medical stores will function from 7 am to 9 pm.

The official notification said, “No employee of the institute will be permitted to leave or enter the campus until further orders, except for any emergency situation. Those employees who are presently outside the campus are advised to remain in the present place and work from that place,”
