Melody Foundation, an institute dedicated to music and art in Dwarka Sector 22 celebrated its completion of 10 years with a classical music concert at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre.
Melody Foundation celebrated 10 years of their journey dedicated to music and art with a classical music concert at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre on 23rd August. The event was inaugurated by Madhumita Acharya Biswas, founder of the institution and a well-known vocalist in Delhi. She lit the ceremonial lamp with Chief Guest Padmashree Shovana Narayan, Sarod Maestro Pta Narendra Nath Dhar and Pt Raj Kumar Misra. The evening opened with an invocation to Lord Ganesha and Saraswati by the students of Melody Foundation.
Amidst applause and appreciation, Saberi Misra an emerging kathak dancer graced the stage. She showcased many specialties of the Jaipur Gharana with her father Pt Rajkumar Misra was on the tabla on compositions of her great grandfather Pt Jailal Maharaj, her grandfather Pt Ramgopal Misra, and her guru and grandmother Susmita Misra. Accompanying her on vocal were Sri. Pratip Banerjee on sitar and Sri Chandrachur Bhattacharya.
The main attraction of the evening was sarod recital by renowned sarod maestro Pt. Narendra Nath Dhar of Seniya Shahjahanpur Gharana of Sarod. To open he recited the soul-stirring rendition of the seasonal Raga Surdasi Malhar presenting a detailed alap and jod followed by a vilambit gat and three compositions in madhyalay and drut teentaal.In this raga he presented traditional as well as self-composed compositions. He next presented another seasonal melody- Raga Gaud malharplaying a brief aochar followed by three compositions displaying various rarely heard prakars of Raga Gaud Malhar. He concluded with raga Jaijaiwanti. His complete mastery over ragadari and sheer knowledge left the audiences asking for more. He was accompanied by his disciples, Dr. Chandrima Majumdar on sarod and Pandit Rajkumar Misra on tabla.
To celebrate the institutes 10 years of excellence various luminaries of music world who attended this event were Kathak Guru Pt Rajendra Gangani, renowned sitarist Pt Uday Mazumdar, veteran vocalists Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Pt Rajan Misra, Vidushi Uma Garg, Vidushi Madhumita Ray, and Vidushi Sumitra Guha, Tabla Maestro Fateh Singh Gangani and many others.
