Karnataka Student bags Junior Scientist Award of 2017 for research on groundwater management

Praveen was the one among the ten students and the only one from Karnataka selected for the award that is given to young achievers under the age of 32 in the field of earth sciences.


A geology student has been awarded for his enthusiasm in bringing a change in the environment. Praveen Kumar V, a geology student from Central University of Karnataka(CUK), Kalaburagi, was awarded the Junior Scientist Award of 2017 for his research on the earth and the environment.

Kumar is presently pursuing a Ph.D. under the guidance of Mohammad Aslam at CUK. University Vice-Chancellor H.M. Maheshwaraiah, in a release, congratulated the young scientist and expressed his commitment to create a conducive and research-friendly environment in CUK.

International Foundation of Environment and Ecology (IFEE) is the founder body who awards students for their intiatives and is headquartered in Kolkata. The fourth international seminar of IFEEE held at Guwahati, Assam, recently.

Praveen was the one among the ten students and the only one from Karnataka selected for the award that is given to young achievers under the age of 32 in the field of earth sciences.

The selection was done by a jury formed by a joint committee of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi and IFEE, Kolkata that was formed especially for the purpose to choose the path breaking invention in this regard.

The CUK authorities said that Mr. Kumar’s research on earth and environment, particularly on artificial recharge of groundwater, water management and conservation, hydrology, solid waste management, the impact of solid waste on surface water and disparity in rains had got him the prestigious award.

IFEEE provide an opportunity to discuss current environmental issues, promote greater collaboration and strengthen the connection among scientists, policymakers and activists. The conference will further help in developing a strong network among scientists, academicians, voluntary organizations, youths including students and teachers along with community people to share their expertise in order to find integrated and comprehensive solutions for different environmental issues affecting the planet earth.
