This is how Badshah, Honey Singh and other rappers became top Bollywood singers

In case you didn’t know, Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Tareefan’ has already become a hit this week, and it all thanks to the rapper Badshah. 

So let’s take a look at the success story of Badshah and other rappers who made it big in the world of glitz and glamour.

1.     Badshah

Badhshah is popular for hits such as ‘Chul, ‘2 Many Girls’ and the recent hit ‘DJ Waley Babu’, didn’t have a great time convincing his parents of his career choice.

While speaking to a leading daily, talking about his journey Badshah said, “When I first told my parents I want to be a rapper, they asked me, ‘Yeh rap hota kya hai’. And to make them understand I showed them a music video featuring rapper 50 Cent. That didn’t put things in my favour, because it was an obscene video,” he recalls, adding, “After that, they told me ‘Bete pehle bade ho jao, phir jo karna ho woh kar lena’.” 

He further said, “I went to St Stephen’s for one month, but then later joined an engineering college here. After my education, I had a job as well. Helmet pehen ke jaata tha main site par (laughs). But I never really liked it much. Thankfully, I got my chance at music and there was no looking back. Now, I say that I was always a musician who happened to be a civil engineer. I only wanted to do something in music,”

2.     YO YO Honey Singh

Yo Yo Honey Singh is an Indian rapper, music director, singer and an actor.  Bollywood also used some of his popular punjabi songs in their movies. But lesser we know about his journey. Honey Singh started his career as a session and recording artist. He got his education in music from prestigious school of Trinity(London). Later he came to Mumbai in 2004, lived there for 8 months but was unsuccessful.

3.     Raftar

Raftaar, who’s songs picturised on Bollywood celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Varun Dhawan and John Abraham, says his hard work and luck have helped him make a name in Bollywood. While speaking to a leading daily,  rapper Badshah said, “I think it’s a combination of both my luck and hard work (that has helped me make a name). I have made it a point to sing differently and stand out. Raftaar’s real name is Dilin Nair. ” He is the Kerala-born rapper who created big hits like ‘Swag Mera Desi’, ‘Instagram Love’, ‘All Black’  feels that in the industry one needs to be little lucky as well.

4.     Hard Kaur

Hard Kaur is a British Indian rapper and hip hop singer; as well as playback singer and actress in Bollywood.  Born in 1979, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh is known for her hip-hop songs by the name Hard Kaur but her born name was Taran Kaur Dhillon. She lost her father when she was young and she and her mother moved to her maternal grandparent’s house. Then her mother married a British guy and moved to Birmingham, England in 1991. By that time being she did her schooling and feel the interest in music, especially hip-hop music.

5.     Ikka Singh

Ankit Singh Patial, also known as IKKA and Ikka Singh, is an Indian singer, rapper. He was born in a Rajput family from Himachal Pradesh. He debuted in Bollywood with the song ‘In Da Club’ for the 2014 film ‘Tamanchey’.
