The whole nation is praying for ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee who is fighting with prolonged illness at Delhi’s AIIMS hospital. Many politicians including PM Modi have been visiting him to check on his health.

Meanwhile we bring you Vajpayee’s unknown fact that he loved art and cinema. Though many are aware of how great he was a poet and has recited his poems a lot of times but many few are unaware of his interest in films.

Yes, the ace politician was very close to films. Here we bring you some of the surprising facts about Vajpayee and his connection with cinema.

·        Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a huge fan of Hema Malini and watched her 1972 film Seeta Aur Geeta 25 times. During an interview the veteran actress said that when she got to meet Vajpayee, he barely was able to talk to her. That’s when she learnt about him being her big fan.

·        Since Vajpayee loved to write, some of his poems were turned into an album named Nayi Disha which had songs by Jagjit Singh and Alka Yagnik.

·        Vajpayee was close friends with veteran actor Dev Anand and the duo even went to Pakistan together during 1999. Dev Anand accompanied the ‘then’ PM to revisit his birthplace Lahore.

·        A biopic titled ‘Yugpurush Atal’ was announced on his 93rd birthday which has been written by Basant Kumar and will be directed by Mayank P. Srivastava.

·        Recently Ram Avatar Bharadwaj will be seen portraying Vajpayee in Manmohan Singh’s biopic ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’

·        The last released film which has mentioned Vajpayee is ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’
